Calculators
What a recipe costs.
The professional-kitchen tool: add up the cost of each ingredient, including trim loss (what’s lost when cleaning), and divide by servings. Use the same unit (g, ml or pieces) in “package” and “used”.
| Ingredient | Price paid | Package amount | Amount used | Trim loss % | Cost |
|---|
Trim loss: the percentage that never reaches the plate (skin, bones, spines, outer leaves). If you weigh before and after cleaning, you can calculate it yourself: (starting weight − clean weight) ÷ starting weight. It is saved in this browser.
Questions
What is trim loss?
The percentage of an ingredient that never reaches the plate (skin, bones, spines, outer leaves). If you weigh before and after cleaning, it is (starting weight − clean weight) ÷ starting weight.
How is the cost of each ingredient calculated?
Price paid ÷ package amount × amount used, divided by (1 − trim loss). For example, 2.00 for 1000 g, using 300 g with 10% trim loss: 2 ÷ 1000 × 300 ÷ 0.9 ≈ 0.67.
Is my recipe saved?
Yes, in this browser only: the table, the servings and the currency are kept so you can come back to them.
